ACTIVITIES OF VIVEKANANDA MATH FOR LAST THREE YEARS

1. Residential Home for orphan/destitute children

At present this Math is taking institutional care of 77 poor, destitute and orphan children for making them useful citizens of the country through their education, maintenance and vocational training free of cost. Both boys and girls from economically weaker sections of the society are getting this benefit irrespective of their caste, creed and religion. Separate centers have been established for boys and girls where they are being reared up through the Indian system of education.

2. Medical relief :-

Medical relief through running charitable diagnostic center, dispensary and distribution of medicines free of cost to poor patient is a major part of the activities of the Math. This year 13348 poor people have received the services from Vivekananda Math either free of cost or at a concessional rate.

3. Spiritual and Cultural activities :-

Apart from the various social welfare activities the Math also conduct special worship ceremonies and other functions on special occasion such as Ramanama Sankirtanam, Durga Puja, Kali Puja, Saraswati Puja, Shiva Ratri, Jagadhatri Puja, Janmastami, Gurupurnima etc including the birthday tithi pujas of Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother Saradadevi and Swami Vivekananda. During these Programe the Math often distribute relief materials like winter garments, sharee, Dhuti etc to poor people and also arrange food for thousands of participants and devotees free of cost as a part of the programe.

4. Santi Ashram for taking care of elderly people :-

As a results of Westernization of Indian society, the elderly people seldom get due respect from their own people and therefore the demand of old age Home is gradually increasing where the suffered old people might get a good atmosphere and proper care during their remaining days of life. Hence, the Math also runs an Old Age Home named "Shanti Ashram" to provide care for elderly people at a very nominal expenses. At present 13 such people are being looked after by the Math.

5. Arrangement of School Education

Arrangement of school education is basic goal ot this Math during which the students are trained according to the guidelines given by Swami Vivekananda with this view, the Math is running a school named Nivedita Vidyapith where total 1248 students from the locality are receiving educations upto classes VIII. After that they- appear for school final through the recognized High School run by Ramakrishna Vivekananda Mission.

6. Vidyarthi Ashram for school Children

Interior part the state of West Bengal have a very limited number of reputed schools compared to those are in Kolkata and its adjacent areas. Therefore a huge number of children are flocked to get admission in various schools in Kolkata and nearby areas. For this reason, the Math runs a unit named Vidyarthi Ashram separate sections for boys and girls where it provides food, stay, coaching to students coming from far off areas at a nominal cost, and in some deserving cases, it provides the facilities free of cost. There are total 985 boys and girls who have got this facility including 77 free students.

7. Relief activities

Natural calamities like flood, draught are very common phenomenon in West Bengal. Every year this Math actively participate in the relief activities and supply cooked food, garments, medicines etc to the affected people.

8. Pecuniary help to the needy

9. Yatri Nivas for pilgrims

People having less financial strength could not afford the expenses of Hotels/Lodges etc during their pilgrimage to known places like Varanasi, Joyrambati. Therefore the Math has set up Yatri Nivae at the above places with moderate facilities of food and stay in a good atmosphere for public.

10. Promotion of universal teachings for Thakur-Ma-Swamiji

Universal teachings of Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother Sarada Devi and Swami Vivekananda has become very popular worldwide for its constructive approach to bring peace and harmony not only in India but all over the world. Needless to say that in the era of pre-independence of India many great souls of our country were deeply inspired by the teachings of the Holy Trio. Therefore the Math also has made arrangements for spreading the said teachings through organizing various programe and sailing books to the people.

11. Vocational Training Center for Village girls

There is a vocational Training Center functioning under Vivekananda Math as training cum production center and printing press for economic rehabilitation for poor women from village areas of the state. At present total 09 poor women are getting benefits out of this project.
